I was so in awe of Captain Sandy as he took his passengers into the inlets and channels and rivers of Georgetown County. He was so knowledgeable and charming and I was one of the women who fell 'under his spell'. A charming storyteller and when I met him, I met the two young daughters who lived with him in Hagley Estates. Both girls were adorable and we spent alot of time at Brookgreen Gardens. The last time I saw him, he had asked me to meet him at Horry-Georgetown Tech for a dinner where he was asked to be the speaker. I remember waiting for him as well-dressed folks mingled and chatted. All of a sudden, this bedraggled stranger with a cane and a straw hat started moving towards the door and everyone was upset. I heard someone say, 'Call the Police!' I told the President that the bedraggled man was his speaker, Captain Sandy and he conveyed that to the worried crowd. He entertained them as he always could and I know that magical man is the most popular one in Heaven right now. My condolences to his sister, his children, and his grandchildren. Fran Sugar

Capt. Sandy took me and my children fishing in Georgetown in the late 90's. He was fun to be with and my kids still talk about him. Gave us a tape of his stories which we played until it was worn out. Also told us the best place we could go for fresh fish was Russell's in Murrells Inlet. We have been going there ever since. Sandy was the salt of the earth and in tune with nature. May you have fair winds and following seas on your journey Captain!

I am so sorry for your loss. Losing a loved one in death. is never easy. I would like to share something with you that I believe will give you comfort. It is found in the Bible at John 5:28,29 it reads " Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life." This can comfort you to know that you can see your loved one again. My condelenses to you and your family.

What a rare occasion it is to have a mentor, best friend, and fishing buddy,all rolled into a neat little package called Cap'n Sandy. As a surrogate older brother, he saw abilities in me that i didn't even know was there. But that's the way he was inspiring the best in those that he encountered. He instilled in me "Our spare and who we spend it with, is the only thing in our life we can truly control". And he lived that everyday!! Fair Sailin my friend to that golden shore!! Cap'n Rod
