Obituary of Rudolph Freeland Mercer
Rudolph Freeland “Shrimp” Mercer, 86, widower of Edith Lewis Myers, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016.
Born on September 20, 1929, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late James Deilefield Mercer and the late Gertrude Rogerson Mercer. Mr. Mercer was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Pleasant and attended Six Mile Crossing Church of God where he was one of the original founders. He was a veteran having served in the US Army, US Navy and the South Carolina National Guard. Mr. Mercer was retired from Georgetown Steel Mill and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include four children, Teresa M. McCants of Andrews, Randy W. Mercer (Alicia) of Andrews, Rudolph F. “Rudy” Mercer, Jr. (Fonda) of Canton, OH and Danny E. Mercer (Valinda) of Georgetown; eight grandchildren, Melissa M. Blake (Donald) of Pawleys Island, Wayne H. McCants (Heather) of Andrews, Amy M. Parnell (Robbie) of Kingstree, Ashley M. McCall (Patrick) of Georgetown, Jenna M. Cantley (Kyle) of Andrews, Taylor Mercer of Georgetown, Dana Mercer of Georgetown and Shelby D. Mercer of Canton, OH; seven great grandchildren, Alex Parnell, Brian Parnell, Camden Blake, Andrew McCants, Adalyn McCall, Kailee Cantley and Claire Blake; one brother, Donald O. Mercer of Georgetown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia C. Mercer; a son, Bruce A. Mercer; one sister; and six brothers.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Six Mile Crossing Church of God with Bishop T. Keith Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 AM -1 PM Tuesday at the church.
