Obituary of Chris Barrineau

Christopher “Chris” Marvin Barrineau, 49, of Andrews, SC, passed away on April 4, 2024, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. Funeral service will be held at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Andrews, SC, on April 7, 2024, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon with Reverend Dean Baber officiating. Burial will follow at Andrews Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Andrews on April 6, 2024, from 5 to 7 o’clock in the evening. Chris is survived by his mother Linda Dianne Wilson Barrineau- Powell and Robin Powell aka Big Daddy. Surviving are his brother Roger (Shana) Barrineau, along with their children Savannah (Jeremy) Rufus and Reece Barrineau; a step-sister Kim (Scott) Miller, along with their children Luke, Breely, and Lexi; a step-brother Stephen Powell (Danielle), along with their children Danilyn and Lakelyn; best friend/cousin Brent (Candyce) Watford and their child Victoria. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as his godmother, Barbara Elliott aka Mama 2. He is preceded in death by his father, Laurice Barrineau; maternal grandparents, Rev. Marvin and Gertrude Wilson; paternal grandparents, Benjamin and Eloise Barrineau. On March 21, 1975, God blessed this world with Christopher Marvin. Born with Chromosomal Deletion Syndrome, which simply means that a very small piece of a chromosome – which contains many different genetic “instructions” - was missing in his genotype. From day one, Chris showed the world how blessed we are with our own genotype woven together in such perfect detail by our Creator. From that day forward, Chris became our very own superhero. Doctors said he would never walk, and yet he not only walked, he ran. At age three, he survived open-heart surgery. By the time he was 10 years old, he had endured five surgeries to repair both ear canals. He went to high school at Georgetown High School where he won the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals in the Special Olympics Swim Meet. For a child whose life expectancy was only a few years, graduating high school in 1996 was cause for celebration. After high school, he worked as a Stay-at-Home-Son for his mother up until his death. The love Chris had for his mother ranked right at the top with his love for Jesus. Disney movies, Pepsi-Cola, and comic book superheroes were his next favorite things. The Rugrats he “brothered” lovingly named him Uncle Bubba. Somewhere along the way, Savannah aka Dennis-the-Menace-in-a-Dress became his “Goldilocks” and Reece always remained his “Bright Eyes.” Being a superhero meant Chris had many amazing superpowers. Some of these powers are listed as follows: First and foremost, Chris had an amazing strength when it came to dealing with life’s struggles among which was surviving stage four colon cancer, all the while maintaining a positive attitude and keeping his tremendous faith in God. For someone who could not read, he knew the Bible better than most, and he had such an amazing wit which captivated everyone he came in contact with. Roger said growing up sharing a bedroom, Chris had a unique knack for crawling into his big brother’s bed, wetting it, and letting his big brother take the blame for it. As normal time passed for everyone around him, Chris had an amazing superpower to never grow any older than eighteen years of age. He could sit longer than humanly possible to watch his favorite TV shows or to complete a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle with his sister, Shana. Everyone marveled at his ability to sleep with his eyes open, and we will never understand how he was able to detect when one DVD was missing from his 1000+ Movie Collection. To be so intelligent, Chris did take everything literally, especially when it came to Big Daddy’s jokes about putting him to work raking the yard or leaving Chris’s mother at Walmart by mistake. Once he literally thought one must undress out of his swim trunks to bathe in Black River. He traveled all over the United States with his best friend, Fievel, a stuffed mouse he had with him since childhood. However, the most amazing feat that Chris ever accomplished was his ability to make a lasting impression on every single person he came in contact with, from members of his own church family to complete strangers at restaurants and movie theaters. Even the medical staff that took care of him during his numerous stays in the hospital and for the last few weeks of his life, admitted how much he touched their lives. He is most remembered by many for his “sweet spirit” and his unmovable Christian faith. Memorial donations may be made to the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Andrews, 112 N.
