Obituary of Charles Marion Tanner

Charles Marion Tanner, 87, widower of Donnell Tanner, passed away Sunday, January 7, 2024, at his home. Born on January 5, 1937, in Georgetown County, he was a son of the late Wister Tanner and the late Rhodie Cribb Tanner. Mr. Tanner was a member of Center Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a railroad man, retiring from CSX transportation after 44 years. He was an avid sports fan. Pickleball, Senior Olympic Basketball, and fast-pitch softball were just a few of the sports he enjoyed playing and coaching. Survivors include two children, Lil Tanner Kish (John) of Georgetown and Cale Marion Tanner (Robin) of Georgetown; nine grandchildren, Tanner, Cookie and Carley Martin, Jessica Weiland (Matt), Whitney Causey (Kenneth), Shelby Newton (Jamie), Charles “TJ” and Reid Tanner, and Kari Oliver (deceased); eight great grandchildren, Rory Weiland, Tara and Ana Martin, Hux and Pynner Leigh Causey, Renn, Bexley and Perri Anne Newton; two sisters, Wilma Foxworth and Cinda Woodbury (Albert) both of Hemingway; and three brothers, Samuel Eason Tanner (Millie) of Georgetown, Tom Tanner of Hemingway, and Gene Tanner of Little River. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Thursday, January 11, 2024 at Center Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Thursday, January 11, 2024 in the church fellowship hall.
