Obituary of Retha Sessions

Retha Mae Altman Sessions, 84, widow of David Leon Sessions, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at National Health Care. Born on December 25, 1938, in Georgetown, she was a daughter of the late Mallie Kie Altman and the late Bertha Anderson Altman. Retha dedicated over 20 years of her life working for the Georgetown County School District, leaving a lasting impact on the education community. Outside of her professional life, Retha found joy in traveling and avidly supported the USC GAMECOCKS. Whether it was exploring new destinations or cheering on her favorite team, she embraced these activities with enthusiasm and a zest for life. She leaves behind cherished memories and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Survivors include two children, Timothy B. Sessions (Dynna) of Georgetown and Leslie Sessions Galgon (Mike) of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; five sisters, Nell Smith of Dothan, AL, Myrtle Howe (Chris) of Murrells Inlet, Helen Morrison of McClellanville, Marilyn Sidell of Georgetown and Darlene Alford (Monty) of Birmingham AL; a daughter-in-law, Candy Sessions; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Brian Sessions; a granddaughter, Senena Elliott; one sister, Christine Owens; and an infant brother. Graveside services will be private.
