Obituary of John Thomas "T" Mercer

John Thomas “T” Mercer, Jr., 70, husband of Penny Watts Mercer, passed away Sunday, May 28, 2023, at MUSC. Born on March 20, 1953, in Georgetown, he was a son of the late John Thomas Mercer, Sr. and the late Edith Victoria Camlin Mercer. Mr. Mercer was raised in the Oak Grove Community and attended First Baptist Church. He was a member of the NRA and enjoyed reading, watching crime stories, gardening, and telling stories. Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; two children, Shannon Edwards and Erin Ethridge both of Georgetown; one grandson, Hunter Strickland of Corpus Christi, TX; a great grandchild, Kelanii Strickland; one brother, Dana Mercer of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Maureen Mobley (Charlie) and Meta Benninghoff both of Andrews; one aunt, Vera Goff of Georgetown; two sister in laws, Pat McClellan (Johnny) and June Perry (Mike); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley Boyce Mercer and Orris Bryan Mercer. Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 PM – 2:30 PM Wednesday in the church parlor.
