Obituary of Janet Riecks Somers
Janet Riecks Somers AKA Janet Riecks Grace, 83, beloved wife of David Walters Somers, Jr., passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at her home on Isle of Palms.
Born on September 29, 1932, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Charles Benjamin Riecks and the late Bertye Stovall Riecks and was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church. Mrs. Somers was a very successful commercial real estate broker and owned J.R. Grace and Company in McLean, VA. She was a former board member with the Christian Women’s Club in Warrenton, VA and was past president of Methodist Women while in college at Averett University in Danville, VA. Mrs. Somers was an active member of the Garden Club in Virginia and Charleston. She had a great love for the beach and enjoyed sailing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of Isle of Palms; six children, David W. Grace (Carol) of Manhattan Beach, CA, Michael G. Grace of Warrenton, VA, J. Christopher Grace (Kelley Harwood) of Boston, MA, Gregory R. Grace (Mary) of Philadelphia, PA, Benjamin S. Grace (Rita) of Rixeyville, VA and Cynthia D. Grace (Mark Tulenko) of Charlottesville, VA; three step children, Sharyn Mackey of Fort Wayne, IN, Jennifer Somers (Scott Goodwin) of Summerville and David W. Somers, III (Karen) of Chesapeake, VA; fifteen grandchildren, Bryan Grace, Allyson Grace, Hannah Grace, Julia Grace, Austin Grace, Sarah, Emily Grace, Miss Grace, Angela White (Aaron), Gregory D. Grace, (Mairi Matrov), Mario Grace (Janet), Stefano Grace, Brad Tulenko (Valerie), Tyler Tulenko and Kassie Tulenko; five step grandchildren, Ryan Mackey (Shannon), Troy Mackey, Tracy Wilson (Richard), Samantha Marshall and Emma Somers; and eight great grandchildren, Benjamin White, Aaron White, Jr., Isaac White, Laura Grace, Nora Grace, Emily Grace, Ethan Grace and Massimo Grace.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. N. Burton Grace; and a brother, Arthur Wayne Riecks.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Monday, April 4, 2016 at Wayne United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Chamblee officiating.
Burial will be at 11 AM Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.
