Obituary of Mary M Porter
Mary M. Porter, 93, widow of Ralph R. Porter, completed her desire to join Jesus in her heavenly home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Better known as Molly, she married Ralph at the age of 17 upon his return home from serving our country in WWII. Molly was an amazing woman who loved her yard and gardens, but her true love was people. There is no one in the Bethel or Oak Grove communities she hasn’t touched in a special way. She tended to the old as they passed away and helped raise the young through every event imaginable. Molly was there no matter the need. She was known as Momma, Grandma Molly and Aunt Molly to everyone. She was her family’s lifeline. Molly was the meaning of love.
She leaves behind her precious baby sister, Rebecca M. “Becca” Hooper (Marty); two children, Ralph W. “Bill” Porter (Kathy) and Gail P. Pierce (David); four grandchildren, Steven Pierce (Jenn), Aaron Pierce (Mandy), Adam Porter (Abbie) and Bridgette McConnell (Joey); 15 precious great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and community kids.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sherwood Liles and Mary Elizabeth Inabinet Miller; and three siblings, Elaine Louise “Weeze” Layton (Walter), Liles Felder “Cuda” Miller (Kate) and Sherwood Maner Miller (Jo).
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Friday, January 6, 2023, at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM Thursday at the church.
