Hi! I"m so sorry to just now be sending this, but I only found out about this recently. My name is Alan Brown and I'm the President of the Charleston Area Claims Association. I have know John for many years now and he has been a very active member of our Association! On behalf of the Claims Association, we send our collective condolences to the family. I am honored that John presented me a signed copy of his book which I read and discussed with him. I also worked with him as did other members on actual fire investigations as well. John was a great person all the way around. We were dearly miss him as I know all of the family will be too! Our prayers continue for you all! I had the occasion to be a co-worker with John as I began my career with Arson Investigations with SLED. Though he was ending his career at SLED and I was just starting he was a valuable asset in my learning. We would sometimes cross paths as he was in the private sector at some fire scenes. John was always ready with a smile and kind word every time we met. He and Susan shared their sons Will and Stephen as "brothers" to our son Jonathan and consistently supported us from the early daycare days up to the present. We will deeply miss him. John was my training Agent when I joined the SLED Arson unit in 2007, we worked a lot of interesting cases together during the 21 months until he retired, and then I drove his truck for years after that, we still talked and I even worked a few cases with him when I went to the private side, he was a great teacher, and person and will be missed Mike Hill
