Obituary of Daniel Lee Webb

If you ever wondered who Daniel Lee Webb was, you would know upon listening to his story that he was a person that spent his life serving others. Dan was born in Chicago on July 25, 1952, he spent his first years of his life in Chittenango NY but his father’s job moved him to the West Indies where he spent two years. He and his family moved back to Chittenango where he quickly was given the nickname of Chico because nobody could figure out where he was from. Chico quickly became a term of endearment and the nickname stuck with him for the rest of his life. If you were to visit Chittenango today and asked about Dan Webb, you’d get some odd looks but if you asked about Chico you’d get a quick smile and good story. Dan graduated from Norwich University and joined the US Army. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Infantry and after Officer Basic Course was off to Korea where he served 15 months. He moved to Fort Bragg where he decided to serve in the Special Forces. While in the Special Forces, Dan performed many different jobs. His dedication and commitment guided him to success. Dan completed his Army service after 12 years and left the Army honorably and at the rank of Major. Dan moved back to Chittenango NY where he served as a safety patrol officer on the SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry police force. Again, his dedication and commitment propelled him to the rank of lieutenant on the University Police Staff. Dan served 22 years on the force and retired in 2014. Dan retired and moved his family to Pawleys Island SC. While retired, Dan stayed engaged in the community and church. He liked staying in touch with his military roots and joined the local American Legion. As part of the legion, they volunteered their time at nearby nursing and assisted living homes. Dan’s lifetime of servitude ended on Tuesday, March 1, 2022, at Lakes at Litchfield. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Webb; son, John Webb of Greenville, SC; and other children, Patrick Taylor (Terry) of Germany, Michael Taylor of Traverse City, MI, Alexander Taylor (Andrea) of Southern Pines, NC, Yvonne Taylor (Paul Heisey) of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren, Clark Taylor, Rose Taylor, Carly Taylor, Matthew Taylor, Benjamin Taylor, Cooper Taylor, Camden Taylor, and Reagan Heisey; one great-granddaughter, Isla Rickman; and one sister, Jacalyn Healy of Syracuse, NY. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, March 5, 2022, in the Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
