Obituary of Robert Murrell Bogan
Robert Murrell Bogan left earth peacefully on November 2, 2021. He was a kind and gentle man with great courage and strength.
Mr. Bogan was born in Hamilton, Ohio the much-welcomed son of R. W. and Mary Louise Bogan. He spent most of his life in Ohio except for a few years during the wild and free sixties in California and his time spent getting his B.S. and MSW degrees at West Virginia University, “Go Mountaineers!” Most recently, he was living his dream of being a resident of his beloved Pawleys Island, SC, a “shabby” little beach town.
Mr. Bogan retired from Butler County Children’s Services Board and went on to work at Montgomery County Mental Health and Recovery Board and then to running a small non-profit, Jefferson House, in Preble County. Over the years many people were touched by his wisdom and kindness.
“Mr. Bob” as he was sometimes referred to, was a loving husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather. For years he was a softball coach to many young ladies in the Hanover Marshall Boosters. He was a strong supporter of Oxford Senior Citizens and enjoyed his time spent playing cards with the folks at the center. Mr. Bob was a teller of tales, a quick wit and a connoisseur of Rock and Roll. He enjoyed sports, music, playing cards, art, literature, and politics.
He leaves behind to treasure his memory, his wife Sharon, daughter Kelly Cody, his much-admired stepson, Aaron Gilkison, his very adored stepdaughter, Sara Pate, and 5 grandchildren, Garrett, Curtis, Riley, Ben, and Olivia. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Hughes, his sister-in-law, Monica Gilliam and nephew, Zachary.
A memorial service will be held in Oxford, Ohio at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
