Obituary of Blondell Roberta Brown
Blondell Roberta Brown, 73, passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital in Georgetown, South Carolina.
Born on June 12, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Ray, Sr. and Albertha Martha Swinton Brown, and was the second oldest of the four Brown children. Ms. Brown was a graduate of Charles A. Brown High School, and pursued training in cosmetology for a brief period after high school. She was a very religious person and a woman of strong faith. She initially was a member of Morrison Brown AME Church, and later became a lifelong member of Greater St. Luke AME Church, where she served on the Usher Board. She received an award in recognition for her many years of service as a Church Usher at a church banquet dinner in August 2012.
She worked as a waitress at the Charleston Naval Base until it was officially closed in 1996. She then worked in Custodian Services at The Citadel for numerous years until retirement. Her work was highly appreciative amongst the staff and the students. She enjoyed cleaning, playing cards, dancing, and watching sports.
In addition to her parents, Ms. Blondell Brown was preceded in death by her older sister, Lois Ellen Brown Shipman, and her brother-in-law, Elmo Vick Blackman, Jr. Survivors include her sister, Maxine Allen Brown Blackman of Greenville, South Carolina, and her brother, Ernest (Jeanie) Ray Brown, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona; her brother-in-law, Gaddy Shipman of Hayward, California; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving and dear friends.
