Obituary of Pearl McCoy Avant
Pearl McCoy Avant, 86, widow of Edward James Avant, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Prince George Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Avant was born on September 25, 1933, in Anderson, and was a daughter of the late Clarence E. McCoy and the late Nell S. McCoy. She was a member of Ringel Heights Baptist Church and was a former cashier with Piggly Wiggly, and a former rural mail carrier. Mrs. Pearl had an infectious personality and brought a tremendous amount of joy to anyone she met. She was well known for her ability to start a conversation with complete strangers, always offering kind words. Despite life's hardships, God's light shone through her all the days of her life. When she wasn't socializing and enjoying the company of others, she spent time in her church, telling stories about her family, and crocheting. She was a remarkable woman and an incredible example of God's love.
Survivors include her four children, Pat Cook (Jerry) of Georgetown, Billy Chastie (Beth) of Columbia, S.C., Allan Chastie (Lisa) of Georgetown and Sandra DuMont of Georgetown; five grandchildren, Katie Godwin (Riles) of Georgetown, Laurie Chastie of Woodstock, G.A., Chris Chastie (Tiffany) of Woodstock, G.A., April Chastie of Georgetown and Jacob DuMont (Becca) of Georgetown; eight great grand children; and her twin sister, Carol Todd of Sandy Springs.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jessie Chastie; a grandson, Chris Preston; one sister, Jenny Prater; and one brother, Mack McCoy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Ringel Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends 12:30-1:30pm prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
