Aunt Ruby kept me when I was little so Moma could substitute teach. She taught me how to play scrabble when I was very young -- still a passion of mine. She talked me into finding a chord with my left hand when I was only playing with my right hand--every time I play the piano now, it's a bit of a tribute to her suggestion.
She was a constant part of my life growing up. More recently, I've been able to spend some time with her, hearing her stories, sharing memories, and getting cooking advice.
On a recent visit, she gave me a sewing needle that she thought would work well in my new basket weaving hobby. It is perfect! She watched me make a few baskets with it over the past weeks. I'll cherish that needle and my memories of her forever.
