Obituary of Levis Roosevelt Johnson
Levis Roosevelt “L.R.” Johnson, 83, husband of Alice Essie Dishman Johnson, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015 at his home.
Born on December 29, 1932, in Andrews, he was a son of the late Calvin Johnson and the late Anzie Lambert Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a US Navy veteran having served in the Korean Conflict and a heavy equipment operator with Murray Wood Products. He was a member of Ringel Heights Baptist Church where he was a deacon, former Sunday school teacher and member of the men’s prayer group. Mr. Johnson was a founding member of the Great Hunters of the South and enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, hunting and fishing. Mr. Johnson was known for mentoring to girls and boys through coaching baseball and football through the Berea Youth Association.
Survivors include his wife of Georgetown; four children, Levis Jeffrey Johnson (Sherry) of Taylors, John David Johnson (Amanda) of Easley, Arthur James Johnson (Selena) of Sumter, and Marsha Lana Henson of Traveler’s Rest; eight grandchildren, Brandy, Cory, Michael, Drew, Danielle, Bailey, Paige and Presley; one great grandchild, Maddy; one sister, Mildred Shirley of Marietta, OH; two brothers, Jay Johnson (Lydia) of Montgomery, AL and Bob Johnson (Shama) of Andrews; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol Green Johnson; a daughter, Jo Sharon Johnson; two sisters, Martha Cooper and Beatrice Cooper; and four brothers, Hubert Johnson, Pete Johnson, Russell Johnson and Lawrence Johnson.
Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Monday, September 7, 2015 at Ringel Heights Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Johnson officiating.
Burial will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in the Graceland Cemetery in Greenville.
The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the church.
